Meet Your Trip Hosts

Randy McMurray & Javier Fernandez

Co-Founders | The Rodfather Tours

For Randy and Javier, Baja isn’t a destination—it’s part of who they are.

With family roots in Baja and decades spent traveling its roads, fishing its waters, and building friendships along the way, they’ve developed a connection to Baja that simply can’t be created by booking a hotel and hiring a boat online.

The Rodfather Tours was born from something they were already doing: bringing family and friends together for unforgettable trips south of the border. What started as their own tradition became something they wanted to share with others.

And when Randy and Javier say they’re your trip hosts, they mean it.

They don’t hand you an itinerary and send you on your way. They make the trip with you.

From the moment the group leaves San Diego until everyone returns home, Randy and Javier are there—traveling with you, fishing alongside you, sharing meals with you, and making sure every detail is handled.

The captains, hotel staff, fish processors, restaurant owners, and local people you’ll meet aren’t just vendors. They’re people Randy and Javier know and trust. Those relationships are a big part of what allows The Rodfather Tours to offer an experience that feels less like a packaged fishing vacation and more like being welcomed into a community.

Of course, the fishing is a huge part of it. There’s nothing quite like watching someone hook into their first Bahía yellowtail or hearing the stories start flying when everyone gets back to the hotel.

But Randy and Javier believe the best part of these trips happens between those moments.

It’s the conversations on the drive down. The friendly competition between boats. The stories around the dinner table. The laughter at the awards banquet. And seeing fathers, sons, daughters, spouses, friends, and coworkers experience Baja together.

That’s what The Rodfather Tours is really about.

You’re not joining someone else’s fishing trip. You’re being welcomed into ours.

The trip that keeps getting postponed

You have probably talked about a trip like this for years.

Maybe it is with your son. Maybe your daughter. Maybe your dad. Maybe it is the same group of friends you keep saying you need to get together with again.

The problem usually is not wanting to go. It is everything that has to happen before you can.

All the details that keep getting in the way:

Boats
Hotels
Gear
Permits
Transportation
Crossing the border
Meals
Fish processing
Getting everybody to agree on dates

Eventually somebody says, we will figure it out next year. And next year becomes the year after that.

One payment. One point of contact.

You pay once. From there, there is nothing left for you to arrange, book, carry, or worry about.

Local knowledge. Personal responsibility.

Baja has been part of our lives for decades.

Our family is from Baja, and both of us have spent a lifetime traveling its roads, fishing its waters, and building relationships with the people who call it home. Bahía de Los Ángeles isn’t simply a destination we discovered and decided to sell trips to—it’s a place we know, respect, and genuinely love.

The captains, hotel staff, fish processors, restaurants, and local people we work with aren’t vendors we found online. They’re people we know and trust. Those relationships matter to us because when we bring a group to Bahía, your experience becomes our responsibility.

That’s also why we don’t just organize your trip and send you on your way.

We make the journey with you.

From the moment we leave San Diego until the moment we return, Randy and Javier are there. We travel together, fish together, eat together, and handle the details along the way.

You’re trusting us to take you and the people you care about into a place that means a great deal to our family. We take that responsibility personally.

This isn’t a trip we simply sell. It’s a Baja experience we’re proud to share with you.

The Rodfather experience

Three nights. Two days on the water. Everything in between.

We leave from San Diego and drive down together. Five pangas, four anglers to a boat, on the water at the same time. A welcome dinner when we arrive, an awards banquet before we head home, and a lot of hours in between that nobody planned and everybody remembers.

The Rodfather Tours started with family

Why this exists

The Rodfather Tours started with family.

For years, some of our best memories have been made heading south into Baja with our sons—Randy with his son, Wesley, and Javier with his sons, Sebastian and Marcelo.

Those trips were never just about how many fish we caught.

They were about getting away from the everyday routine, spending uninterrupted time together, laughing, competing, telling stories, sharing meals, and creating the kind of memories that somehow become more valuable as the years go by.

As our sons grew into men, we realized just how special those trips had become. Life gets busy. Kids grow up. Careers, families, and responsibilities take over. Opportunities to spend a few days together become harder to find—and that makes them even more important.

That realization is a big part of why The Rodfather Tours exists.

We wanted to create an experience where fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, families, friends, and even coworkers could put everything else aside for a few days and experience Baja the way our family has.

Yes, you’ll catch fish. Hopefully some really big ones.

But years from now, it probably won’t be the number of yellowtail in the cooler that you remember most.

It’ll be who was standing beside you when you caught them.

That’s why this exists.

BUILT ON THE TRIPS WE’VE SHARED

The Rodfather Tours may have a name now, but these trips didn’t start with a website or a business plan.

They started years ago with family and friends loading up, heading south into Baja, and spending a few days fishing, laughing, eating, competing, and making memories together.

We’ve made this journey multiple times, bringing groups to Bahía de Los Ángeles and learning along the way what turns a good fishing trip into an unforgettable one. Every trip has helped us refine the experience—from the drive south and the people we work with in Bahía to the time on the water and the moments everyone shares when the fishing day is over.

That experience is what The Rodfather Tours is built on.

We know that the best trips aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest fish. They're the ones where friendships get stronger, families reconnect, new traditions begin, and everyone comes home already talking about the next trip.

That's the experience Javier and I have shared with our own families and friends, and it's the experience we're proud to share with you.

The trips have already begun. The stories are already being told. Now there’s a seat for you.

The Rodfather Tours commemorative coin

A tradition worth collecting

Every trip leaves you with something.

The fish eventually gets eaten. The pictures end up on your phone.

But every person who makes the trip goes home with a Rodfather coin.

One trip. One coin. Come back next year and earn another.

Someday you will look at the collection and remember exactly who was there for every one.
