The eight-to-nine-hour drive through Baja is part of the experience. It’s a chance to get to know everyone, share some stories, enjoy the scenery, and build excitement for the fishing ahead.

The Rodfather Tours was built around family, friendship, fishing, and creating memories together—and that starts the moment we leave San Diego.

Traveling through Baja is something we know well. Randy and Javier have been making this journey together for decades, with deep family roots in Baja California and a lifetime of experience traveling throughout the region.

Our guests travel together with Randy and Javier, following a familiar route with planned stops along the way. We monitor travel conditions, stay together as a group, and use the experience we’ve gained from making this trip many times.

You’re not being handed directions and left to figure out Baja on your own. From San Diego to Bahía de los Ángeles and back home again, we make the journey together.

We take care of all the paperwork so you can focus on the adventure.

All necessary travel documents, including tourist permits and Mexican fishing permits, will be handled and confirmed by The Rodfather Tours prior to the trip.

Bahía de los Ángeles is known for incredible fishing and a wide variety of species. Depending on the season and conditions, you may encounter yellowtail, yellowfin tuna, dorado, grouper, cabrilla, pargo, bonito, calico bass and more.

Every day on the water is different—that’s part of the adventure. Our experienced local captains have spent years fishing these waters and know where to go based on the season, weather and current bite.

And sometimes, the experience goes well beyond fishing. Bahía de los Ángeles is famous for its whale sharks, and depending on the time of year and conditions, we may have the opportunity to encounter these incredible animals—and potentially even swim alongside them when conditions and local regulations allow.

We can’t guarantee what will be on the end of your line—or what we’ll encounter along the way—but that’s part of what makes every Rodfather trip unique.

Fishing in Bahía de los Ángeles is excellent throughout much of the year, with each season offering something different.

Spring: Great yellowtail fishing with comfortable weather.

Summer: Excellent variety, with opportunities for yellowtail, dorado, yellowfin tuna and other warm-water species. This is also a great time for possible whale shark encounters.

Fall: One of our favorite times of year, with a great mix of species, warm water and plenty of fishing opportunities.

Winter: Cooler temperatures and a different style of fishing, with opportunities for yellowtail and a variety of bottom fish.

Because fishing conditions can change from year to year, we plan our trips around the seasons that give our guests the best combination of fishing, weather and the overall Bahía experience.

There really isn’t a bad time to experience Bahía—just different adventures depending on when you go.

Absolutely—and bringing home your catch is part of the Rodfather experience.

After fishing, your catch will be professionally cleaned, filleted, vacuum-sealed and frozen so it’s ready for the trip home.

Before we leave Bahía de los Ángeles, we’ll pick up your processed fish and help make sure it is properly packed in your cooler with ice for the drive back to San Diego.

We’ll also make sure everyone understands the applicable Mexican fishing limits and U.S. border requirements before the trip, so you know what species and quantities can legally be brought home.

The Rodfather Tours provides the rods, reels and essential tackle you’ll need for your two days of fishing in Bahía de los Ángeles. Our gear is selected specifically for the type of fishing and species we’ll be targeting.

Of course, experienced anglers are welcome to bring their favorite setups if they prefer—but you don’t need to own a single piece of fishing equipment to join us.

Randy and Javier will be with you throughout the trip, taking care of the details so you can focus on fishing, having a great time, and making memories.

You bring your personal belongings and your sense of adventure. We’ll take care of the rest.

We work with several trusted hotels in Bahía de los Ángeles, allowing us to choose the best accommodations for each trip based on group size and availability.

Our goal is simple: clean, comfortable accommodations where you can relax after a full day on the water.

Your lodging is arranged before departure and all three nights are included in your Rodfather Tours package, so there’s nothing for you to book or coordinate on your own.

We take care of where you sleep—you just worry about what you’re going to catch tomorrow.

Absolutely. Some of the best fishing memories are made as a family.

Children ages 10 and older are welcome to join The Rodfather Tours when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Because our trips involve long travel days, early mornings, extended time on the water, boats, fishing equipment, and the adventure of traveling through Baja, parents are responsible for the supervision, safety, and behavior of their children throughout the entire trip.

Our hosts and captains will gladly help young anglers learn to fish, use the equipment, and enjoy their time on the water, but The Rodfather Tours does not provide childcare or individual supervision of minors.

Parents know their children best, and we ask that they make sure their young angler is comfortable with the travel, long fishing days, and outdoor nature of the experience before booking.

If they’re ready for the adventure, we’re ready to help them make some incredible memories.

Absolutely—they’re still welcome! The Rodfather experience is about much more than just fishing.

Non-fishing guests can enjoy the beauty and laid-back atmosphere of Bahía de los Ángeles, relax at the hotel, explore the town, enjoy the waterfront, or simply take some time to unwind.

They’re also welcome to join the group for dinners and other scheduled activities, so they can still be part of the overall experience without spending two full days on the water.

Not everyone has to fish to become part of the Rodfather family.

Pack light—we take care of most of the important stuff.

The Rodfather Tours provides your fishing gear and tackle, fishing permits, lodging, and many of the essentials you’ll need for the trip. We’ll also send you a complete pre-trip checklist before departure so you know exactly what to pack.

For your trip, plan on bringing comfortable clothing for warm days and cooler mornings, a light jacket, comfortable shoes, sun protection, sunglasses, personal toiletries and medications, and a small bag for your personal belongings.

Be sure to bring your required travel documents and a cooler for your fish—but you can leave it in San Diego. We’ll transport your professionally processed and frozen catch back from Bahía in The Rodfather Tours coolers. Once we arrive back in San Diego, we’ll transfer your fish into your personal cooler for the trip home.

Experienced anglers are welcome to bring their favorite fishing gear, but it’s certainly not required.

Bring a good attitude, a sense of adventure, and a cooler waiting in San Diego for your catch—we’ll take care of the rest.

Our introductory Rodfather Tours package is $1,595 per person.

We designed the trip to make your Bahía experience as easy and worry-free as possible. Your package includes round-trip transportation from San Diego, three nights of lodging, two full days of fishing with experienced local captains, fishing gear and tackle, Mexican fishing permits, professional fish processing, meals, drinks and snacks, Rodfather Tours apparel, and personalized hosting throughout the trip.

There are no boats to arrange, hotels to book, permits to figure out, or fishing gear you need to purchase. Randy and Javier take care of the details so you can focus on the experience.

Choose one of our available trip dates and reserve your spot directly through our website. Once your reservation is confirmed, Randy and Javier will take it from there.

As your trip approaches, we’ll provide everything you need, including your pre-trip checklist, required paperwork, travel information, packing recommendations, meeting location and departure details.

We’ll stay in communication with you leading up to the trip so there are no surprises and you know exactly what to expect.

A deposit is required to reserve your spot on a Rodfather Tours trip.

Your deposit secures your place and allows us to begin making the necessary arrangements for your trip, including lodging, captains, permits, and other reservations.

The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to your trip, giving us plenty of time to finalize everything before we head south.

Specific deposit amounts and our cancellation policy will be clearly provided when you book.

Once your deposit is in, your Rodfather adventure is officially on the calendar.

We understand that sometimes plans change.

Because The Rodfather Tours makes advance commitments for lodging, captains, permits, transportation, meals, and other trip expenses, cancellations can affect costs that have already been paid or reserved on your behalf.

If you need to cancel, please contact us as soon as possible so we can work with you and determine what options may be available.

Your deposit is non-refundable, and cancellations made within 30 days of departure are non-refundable because final trip arrangements and payments have already been made.

If you cancel more than 30 days prior to departure, any payments you have made above the non-refundable deposit will be refunded to you, or you may choose to apply that amount toward a future Rodfather Tours trip, subject to availability.

We strongly recommend travel insurance to help protect your investment in case something unexpected prevents you from joining us.

Absolutely. The Rodfather Tours is a great experience for private groups, families, friends, and corporate teams.

If you’d like to reserve an entire trip for your group, we can work with you to create a private Rodfather experience built around your group and available trip dates.
